Things got heated following Chelsea's 3-0 win over PSG in the final before a scuffle broke out, and PSG head coach Enrique opined that the fracas should have been avoided.

Ligue 1 holders PSG fell to a shock 0-3 defeat at the hands of Premier League heavyweights Chelsea in the final of the revamped edition of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Monday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

A brace from Cole Palme and another strike from Joao Pedro helped seal the deal for the Blues from London as PSG missed out on the opportunity to complete a clean sweep of all events they competed in this year following their French league victory, Cup titles and the UEFA Champions League triumph.

Things got heated towards the end of the game as Enrique was involved in an altercation with Chelsea’s goalscorer, Pedro. The Spanish gaffer however clarified that the scuffle should have been avoided during the presser following the fixture and reiterated that he was trying to separate the players.

“There was pushing and shoving, a lot of tension and pressure," the PSG boss said.

“The situation obviously should have been avoided," the Spaniard continued.

“My intention was clearly to just try to separate the players," he added.

Enrique also lauded the Blues on their victory and expressed that the Enzo Maresca’s men deserved he win on the day.

“I think over the course of the game they deserved their win. They played very well," the former Barcelona head coach said.

“I said beforehand that Chelsea were a very good team and they deserve their victory and the trophy."

PSG are slated to enjoy some downtime before the grind begins again in a month’s time when the UCL winners take on UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur in a cup game between the title winners from the previous season.

“I think is important for us to enjoy our holidays. They will be very short. But we need to make the most of them," Enrique said.

Enrique also lauded the revamped tournament, slated to be held once every four years, despite complaints over the congested calendar.

“I think this tournament was born out of the need to know who the best team in the world is. I think it is an interesting format and I think it could become a real top-level competition," Enrique said.

“There is just the difficulty of finding space for it in the current calendar, but I think it is an interesting tournament — we had the chance to win it but there was another team who were better than us in the final," the Spaniard concluded.
