A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) attached to the Yadrami Police Station and a head constable were caught by the Lokayukta police while allegedly accepting a bribe in connection with the illegal trade of rice meant for the State government’s Anna Bhagya scheme on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Vishwanath Mudareddy, PSI of Yadrami Police Station, and Siddanna Biradar, a head constable.

According to Lokayukta officials, the two had allegedly demanded money from the relatives of Anand Kusti, promising to extend assistance in a case relating to the illegal trading of rice distributed under the Anna Bhagya scheme. The accused are said to have received ₹20,000 in advance through digital payments on June 12.

Officials said the accused later demanded an additional ₹30,000. On Thursday, while allegedly accepting ₹20,000 as part of the demanded amount on the premises of the Yadrami Police Station, they were caught in a trap laid by the Lokayukta police.

Accused police officer Mudareddy had received a gold medal from the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his performance in investigating serious crimes and apprehending accused persons during 2024-25.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju and led by Inspector Arun Maragond.

Both officials were taken into custody, and an investigation is under way.
