Pune Woman Filed Rape Complaint Against Friend ‘Out Of Anger’: Cops In Shocking Revelation

A Pune woman had claimed that she was raped by a man posing as a courier delivery agent at her residence. However, it later came to the fore that both of them were friends.

In a shocking twist in the Pune rape case, the techie, who earlier claimed that she was raped by a man posing as a courier delivery boy at her residence in a posh society in the city, had filed the complaint against her friend allegedly “out of anger", according to a report.

It came to light during the probe that the accused was a friend of the victim and both had known each other for a couple of years. They had also met at the woman’s house multiple times in the past and they decided to meet on Wednesday as well, the day when the alleged incident took place, the report said.

The woman, an IT professional, told the police that she was not ready for sexual intercourse that day; however, the man forced himself upon her, NDTV reported, citing the police.

The two people had first met at a community event and became friends. The accused used to get parcels delivered to her residence and even came over when her family was away, the report said, citing sources.

As the probe deepens into the mystery, the woman allegedly confessed to the police in her statement that she initially gave false information to the police.

Explaining her reason for the same, she told the police that she was not ready for sexual intercourse that evening he arrived at her residence but he forced her into it. “So out of anger, she filed a complaint with the police that she was raped," NDTV quoted Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar as saying.

She had previously claimed in her complaint that a man posing as a delivery agent showed up at her flat in the Kondhwa area when she was alone and allegedly raped her. She also claimed that the accused clicked a selfie on her phone, in which her back and a part of his face were visible. She claimed that he had left a message that he had taken her pictures and would leak them online if she reported the incident to the police. “I’ll be back," read the message, she claimed earlier.

However, after the suspect was detained, the police discovered that it was the woman who had taken the selfie. The original picture showed his face clearly, but she edited it and also typed the alleged threatening message.

The families of both of them knew each other, the report said.

The suspect was a highly qualified professional.

The police further confirmed that no chemical was sprayed on the woman’s face, as suspected earlier.

“We are still ascertaining why the victim made allegations of rape and it is still under investigation as the girl’s mental state is not good at present," the police said.
