Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday regularised the services of 516 daily wage workers of the Forest Department, handing over appointment letters to employees who had been awaiting job security for years.

The Chief Minister said the decision would provide stability and dignity to the workers while also strengthening the functioning of the department.

Mann also announced the restoration of 237 long-pending promotions of Forest Department officers and employees. He said the government has taken several steps for employee welfare, including ending the contractor system and ensuring direct employment opportunities.

Workers To Continue Till 58 Years

Addressing the gathering, Mann said the employees regularised under the policy would continue in service until they reach the age of 58 years. He added that they would receive a structured salary system along with 5% annual salary increments as per government provisions.

The Chief Minister said several daily wage workers did not meet the prescribed educational qualifications and age criteria under the regularisation policy. However, the government granted special relaxation after considering their long years of service, with many employees having worked for over a decade and some for nearly 25 years.

Mann said the Forest Department has so far regularised 1,458 daily wage workers, while 342 employees have been recruited through regular appointments. He also highlighted the contribution of forest workers in protecting Punjab’s green cover and wildlife.

Jobs Record, Forest Department Plans

The Chief Minister said his government has provided more than 68,000 government jobs based on merit and transparency. He claimed that the recruitment process has moved away from favouritism and that eligible candidates are being selected solely on qualifications.

Mann also said the government plans to revive neglected forest resorts across Punjab to increase revenue for the Forest Department. He added that efforts are underway to strengthen the department and promote environmental conservation.

The Chief Minister said the regularisation decision reflects the government’s commitment towards employees who have served the state for years. Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, Forest Secretary K.K. Yadav and other officials were present at the event.
