Several political parties in the Opposition have said that their supporters will join the parents on August 9.

A civic police volunteer was arrested by Kolkata Police for alleged involvement in the crime. After the case was transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court, the central agency submitted a charge sheet against Sanjoy Roy the accused.

A trial court sentenced the accused to life term in January 2025 in the case. The victim’s parents, however, have not been satisfied with the outcome of the investigation by the CBI, and have said that they have been failed by both the State government and the Union government.

The parents of the deceased doctor have approached Calcutta High Court with questions on the investigation by the CBI. Recently, the counsel of the parents urged the court to allow them access to the scene of the crime, which was rejected by a Court.
