Tej Pratap Yadav on Tuesday backed Priyanka Gandhi as the face of the INDIA bloc, raising fresh doubts over Rahul Gandhi’s leadership within the Congress.

The Janshakti Janta Dal founder said Priyanka Gandhi was better suited to lead the party, drawing comparisons with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. “Only Priyanka Gandhi can run it; she is like Indira Gandhi," he said, criticising Rahul’s public outreach efforts.

“Rahul Gandhi se chalne wala nhi hai (Rahul Gandhi can’t run it) by going on a yatra, by sitting on a Bullet," he added.

Yadav also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s political approach, referring to recent developments in Bihar politics. He pointed to the exit of Nitish Kumar and the subsequent appointment of BJP’s Samrat Choudhary as Chief Minister, asking what Rahul Gandhi’s larger strategy was.

His remarks came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that Nitish Kumar had been “compromised" following his departure from active state politics.
