Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a signature campaign on issues in the country’s education system, including paper leaks and high fees, saying it would give students a platform to place their demands directly before the government.

In a post on X, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha shared a link to the campaign and asked students to send in their ideas and sign a petition. He said the initiative, titled ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, was aimed at raising concerns such as affordable education, fair examinations and dignified employment opportunities.

“If you’ve suffered because of paper leaks, exam issues, or high fees, if this education system has shattered your dreams, if your family has invested a lifetime of savings in your education, then ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ is your voice,” Gandhi said.

He added, “Join the movement: Click the link below. Fill in your name and share your ideas. Sign the petition -- that’s it,” and urged young people to take part in the campaign. “More the signatures, louder the goonj!” he said.

Gandhi’s appeal came a day after he interacted with students at a convention in Kota, Rajasthan. During that interaction, he described India’s education system as a “rejection system” rather than a selection system, and said it placed an excessive financial burden and caused significant stress for students and middle-class families. Addressing the gathering in Kota, known for its coaching centres, he said the current education structure was “extremely stressful and unfair”.

At the ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ Maha Rally in Kota, where he spoke with students on issues such as paper leaks and unemployment, Gandhi said, “This is not good for the country. I want all of us to work together to ensure that no student in this country ever feels what this girl felt.” The campaign launch built on those concerns, with Gandhi asking students to sign the petition and share their ideas.
