Posters describing Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi as “missing" appeared in several parts of the national capital on Sunday, including Firozshah Road, amid the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) continued attack on the Congress leader over his reported foreign visit.

The posters, carrying the word “missing" alongside Rahul Gandhi’s photograph, were spotted in prominent locations in Delhi. It was not immediately known who had put up the posters.

The development comes a day after the BJP accused Gandhi of remaining absent whenever Parliament, elections or his party needed him, alleging that he was on “yet another foreign visit."

According to PTI, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a sharp attack on the Congress MP, claiming that for Rahul Gandhi, LoP does not stand for Leader of the Opposition but “Leader of Paryatan (tourism) and Partying."

“Rahul Gandhi should rename LOP as ‘Leader of Paryatan and Partying’ because that’s what he always does, partying, tourism and travel," Poonawalla said in a video statement.

The BJP spokesperson alleged that Gandhi prioritised foreign travel over his political responsibilities.

“He does not put people first, Parliament first or even the country first. He puts tourism first. During crucial periods, when the party requires organisational support, he runs away. During Parliament sessions, he runs away. Rahul Gandhi is on constant vacation mode," he claimed.

Continuing his criticism, Poonawalla drew a comparison between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Congress leader, claiming Gandhi could become the “longest-serving opposition leader" because of his frequent foreign trips.

“On the one hand, Prime Minister Modi has become the longest-serving elected PM of the country. For over 9,000 days, as chief minister and as prime minister, as head of government, he has not taken a single day off. This is called work mode, service (seva) mode. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi may well become the longest-serving opposition leader because he is only on vacation," he said.

The BJP leader also questioned the funding of Gandhi’s overseas visits.

“People usually take one vacation between two work periods. Rahul Gandhi comes to India for a little bit of work between two vacation periods. He has spent crores of rupees on his vacations but is unable to provide an account of how he spends this money on foreign tours and travel," Poonawalla alleged.

He further claimed that Gandhi’s foreign trips were backed by “shady" organisations and alleged that they promoted an “anti-India agenda."

“Obviously, it is sponsored by some shady organisations that set the agenda, which is usually an anti-India agenda. On that too, Congress and Rahul Gandhi do not give any account. Once again, Rahul Gandhi has gone abroad. He will spew venom against India and will be MIA, missing in action, when Parliament, the party and the people need him," he alleged.

The Congress had not responded to the posters or the BJP’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
