Birthday greetings poured in from across the political spectrum on Friday as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi turned 56, with leaders from the Congress, INDIA bloc allies and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending their wishes to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge led the greetings, hailing Gandhi’s public life and his commitment to constitutional values and social justice. In a post on X, Kharge praised Gandhi’s continued engagement with people and his advocacy for marginalised communities.
Your unbridled dedication to the ideals of the Constitution and your uncompromising fight for the unheard voices have inspired millions,” Kharge wrote.
He added that the Congress party’s long-standing values of inclusiveness, harmony, social justice and compassion were reflected in Gandhi’s leadership and public journey. Kharge also highlighted Gandhi’s willingness to challenge authority and speak for vulnerable sections of society.
“Through your tireless engagement with people and your courage in speaking truth to power, you have consistently championed the cause of the most vulnerable and marginalised. May you be blessed with good health, happiness, strength and a long life in service of the nation,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his greetings to Gandhi. In a brief message on X, Modi wrote: “Best wishes to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji, on his birthday. Praying for his good health and long life.”
Birthday wishes also came from leaders of INDIA bloc parties and other political figures. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay joined in greeting Gandhi on the occasion.
Vijay referred to Gandhi as “my dear brother” and wished him continued success in public life. He expressed hope that Gandhi would keep raising his voice for national progress, democratic values and the welfare of people across sections of society.
Several senior Congress leaders, including VD Satheesan, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, DK Shivakumar, A Revanth Reddy, Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, also shared messages celebrating Gandhi’s role and leadership.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal described Gandhi as “India’s hope” and “our future,” calling him a leader committed to building an inclusive and empathetic nation. He said Gandhi had emerged as a “towering pillar” and a “beacon of hope” for the youth, the poor and marginalised communities.
The Congress party, through its official handle, also praised Gandhi’s stand against injustice and inequality, describing him as a leader who listens to young people and speaks for their aspirations. The party concluded its message by wishing him strength and happiness while reiterating its vision of a kinder and fairer India.
