Rain lashes parts of Delhi; IMD issues yellow alert, more showers likely till July 9

NEW DELHI: Rain lashed parts of Delhi on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next few hours.The IMD recorded a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory on Saturday, which was 1.1 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35 degrees Celsius.Relative humidity stood at 77 per cent in the morning, while cloudy conditions persisted across the city for most of the day.The weather office has forecast that rainfall activity is likely to continue in Delhi until July 9."Cloudy conditions will prevail, and associated thunderstorm activity is also expected. Light thunderstorm activity is expected with wind speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50-60 kmph. Rainfall activity is likely to be on the higher side from tomorrow," IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava said.
