Nashik: Persistent rainfall over the past three days has sharply reduced Nashik district’s rainfall deficit, with cumulative rainfall nearly doubling and the district reaching 83.4% of its normal seasonal average after a rain-deficient June.According to Water Resources Department data, Nashik’s progressive rainfall increased from 110.7mm on July 6 to 220.2mm on July 9. The district, which was facing a 47.3% rainfall deficit, registered a significant recovery following heavy showers across western and catchment areas.“This sudden influx has improved the situation in Nashik. The rainfall figure is now at a healthy 83.4% of its normal seasonal baseline — leaving a deficit of just about 18%.
The catchment areas and western tehsils received the heaviest rainfall, with Trimbakeshwar recording the highest absolute volume of rainfall across the entire district,” said a senior officer from the water resources department.Trimbakeshwar recorded the highest rainfall in the district with 411.8mm in the last 72 hours. Other talukas receiving substantial rainfall were Surgana (210.4mm), Nashik (173.3mm), Igatpuri (162.4mm) and Peth (160.7mm).
The fresh spell has also improved seasonal rainfall performance in several talukas. “This has had a positive impact on the progressive performance of the seasonal rains. Kalwan taluka has received the highest total rainfall at 282.2mm since June 1, standing at 146.3% of its required normal. This is followed by the otherwise parched Sinnar taluka, which has received 212.8mm of progressive rain, or 130.6% of its average normal,” the officer said.Baglan has received 189.3mm rainfall, or 129.4% of normal, while Nandgaon has recorded 189.4mm, reaching 126.8% of its expected seasonal rainfall. However, some talukas continue to remain below normal levels. Dindori has received 182.6mm rainfall, or 94.2% of normal, followed by Yeola at 89.8% and Surgana at 64.6%. The most significant deficits persist in Peth, which has achieved only 47.8% of its normal rainfall, and Igatpuri, where cumulative rainfall stands at just 32.9% of normal despite recent showers. With rainfall ceasing since Wednesday afternoon, normalcy has largely returned across the district.“There are no serious issues regarding connectivity across the district, barring small sections where water damaged the asphalt. None of these spots posed any danger to motorists, and corrective measures are already underway to fix the potholes that have emerged,” Public Works Department officials said.Ends
