Study flags rising health and financial risks from worsening air quality
Rain and snowfall are expected to affect parts of North India due to a fresh weather system while temperatures in the national capital are likely to rise, according to weather officials.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated a change in weather conditions over the Western Himalayan region, however most parts of the country are likely to remain dry over the next seven days.
A Western Disturbance, currently moving as a trough in the upper atmosphere, is set to cross into the region on February 9, 2026.
Travellers heading to the mountains may need to prepare for colder conditions as the new weather system sets in, with isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad from February 9.
The wet spell is expected to extend to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between February 9 and 11. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph in higher areas from February 10.

This warm-up follows a freezing night where Fatehpur in East Rajasthan recorded the lowest temperature in the plains at 4.9 degrees Celsius.
Central India is also expected to witness a rise of two to four degrees Celsius in the coming days, while maximum temperatures in Delhi and the National Capital Region are likely to remain between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.
In the north, commuters still face a hazy battle on the roads. Dense to very dense fog is forecast to persist during the morning and night hours in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand until February 10. Visibility has already hit zero metres in Bareilly and Gorakhpur, making driving conditions treacherous.
Apart from the northern region, northern Tamil Nadu, Bihar and parts of Northeast India are also likely to witness foggy conditions in the mornings until February 9.
