Rainfall in North Karnataka reduced slightly on Thursday but water levels in the Krishna continued to rise due to discharge from Maharashtra.

For the first time this month, water discharge crossed 2 lakh cusecs at the inter-State border.

As many as 12 bridge-cum-barrages in Belagavi district remain submerged. Commuters are using alternative routes.

Water release measured on Thursday at the inter-State gauge at Kallol barrage was 2,26,707 cusecs. This was more than the 1.8 lakh cusecs discharge on Wednesday.

The Hippargi barrage that feeds the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir at Almatti registered inflow and outflow of 1.8 lakh cusecs. Storage was zero.

Officials reduced gross storage in the Almatti dam to 100 tmcft as against the full capacity of 123 tmcft. It received 1.71 lakh cusecs of water and the outflow was over 2.5 lakh cusecs.

The Renuka Sagar dam over the Malaprabha is nearly full at 36 tmcft against the full capacity of 37 tmcft. Inflow was 13,593 cusecs and outflow 12,794 cusecs.

The Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir over the Ghataprabha in Hidkal has 50.4 tmcft of water against the full capacity of 51 tmcft. Outflow of 33,694 cusecs was maintained over an inflow of 30,629 cusecs, to prevent flooding in backwater regions.
