Rajasthan woman kills 3-year-old daughter by throwing her in lake, arrested

A woman has been arrested in Rajasthan’s Ajmer for allegedly killing her 3-year-old daughter by throwing her into the Ana Sagar Lake. According to the police, the incident occurred late Tuesday night, after the woman spent several hours with the child near the lake.

The accused, identified as Anjali alias Priya Singh, is originally from Sakulpura in Banaras district, Uttar Pradesh. She was in a live-in relationship with a man named Aklesh Gupta in the Datanagar area of Ajmer. Anjali had separated from her husband, with whom she had a daughter, and reportedly wanted to “get rid” of the child.

According to Circle Officer Rudraprakash Sharma, police from the Christian Ganj station became suspicious when they spotted Anjali and Aklesh near the Bajrang Garh intersection at the unusual hour of around 4 am. Upon being questioned, the woman falsely claimed that her daughter had gone missing and that they were searching for her.

However, when police reviewed CCTV footage of the area, it showed the child was with Anjali between 10 pm and 1:30 am. Further footage revealed that Anjali went to the old Ana Sagar lake area, where she put her daughter to sleep on a bench.

Upon sustained interrogation, Anjali confessed to pushing her daughter into the lake through a section where the railing was missing. The police later recovered the child’s body from the Ana Sagar Lake.

Police also revealed that a missing report had already been filed by Anjali’s husband in Banaras regarding her disappearance.
