Even as the search operation to find the 32 missing persons following the heavy rain at Chishoti village in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir is underway, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday (August 24, 2025) reviewed the ground situation through video conferencing from Jammu.

Mr. Singh visited the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu and met those injured in the recent flash floods at Chishoti village.

Mr. Singh, who could not travel to the affected areas due to inclement weather, expressed satisfaction over the prompt response and coordinated efforts of the State administration, Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Jammu and Kashmir police during the crisis.

“The Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is leaving no stone unturned in providing relief and rehabilitation to those affected by this tragic incident,” the Defence Minister said.

During his hospital visit, Mr. Singh interacted with the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery. He was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh.

Earlier, Mr. Sinha said the Defence Minister would visit the affected village, if weather permitted.

“If the weather permits, we will visit the affected village. Otherwise, he [Defence Minister] will meet the injured in GMC and return to Delhi,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Heavy rains lashed Chishoti village on August 14, killing 65 persons and injuring over 100 others, while the search for 32 other missing persons is continuing.

“Sixteen people are under treatment in the GMC and their condition is stable. I hope all of them will recover fully and return home soon,” the L-G said.

He said ₹4.13 crore had been spent on relief and rehabilitation of the victims, and both the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Centre would ensure their proper rehabilitation.
