Rajnath writes to Gadkari for elevated corridor over Shaheed Path

Lucknow: Defence minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh has sought an elevated corridor over Shaheed Path to address rising traffic congestion in the city. Singh proposed the elevated corridor should include a cloverleaf interchange at the Kamta crossing near the High Court, which is considered a major traffic bottleneck.In a letter to Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, Singh urged him to conduct a feasibility study and take up the project at the earliest. The information was shared by his public relations officer, Diwakar Tripathi, who said Singh took note of how Shaheed Path, originally planned as a 24-km four-lane corridor, has emerged as a key north-south traffic artery and a lifeline for the city, but rapid urban expansion along the route has significantly increased traffic, leading to frequent congestion and road accidents.He pointed out that Lucknow’s population has grown from around 22 lakh in 2001 to nearly 45 lakh, while the number of registered vehicles has surged from about 5 lakh to 29 lakh, putting pressure on existing road infrastructure.He added that widening the existing road is not feasible because of lack of land along the stretch, making an elevated corridor a more viable solution for smoother and safer traffic movement.
