The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to submit a status report.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant took up a batch of petitions seeking an independent investigation into the alleged misappropriation of devotees’ offerings and posted the matter for further hearing next Monday.
The court’s direction comes amid an ongoing SIT probe ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government following allegations of irregularities in the handling of donations collected at the temple. The controversy triggered public debate and led to the registration of an FIR, arrests of several accused and resignations within the temple trust.
