Ranchi Mayor Election: 8 Candidates Withdraw, 11 Remain for Feb 23 Polls

Ranchi: Eight candidates who filed nominations for the post of mayor in Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) withdrew their nomination papers on Friday. With it, 11 candidates remained in the fray for the Feb 23 election, which is expected to witness a high-pitched campaigning in the coming days.Polling officials said no nomination papers of candidates were rejected during the scrutiny of papers. Friday was the last date for withdrawal of nominations.The candidates, Ajit Lakra, Kathrina Tirkey, Viru Tirkey, Rajendra Munda, Ramsharan Tirkey, Sujit Kumar Kujur, Sunil Fakira Kachhap and Sanjay Kumar Toppo, withdrew their nominations before the electoral officer at the collectorate on Friday.“Following the withdrawal, 11 candidates- Rama Khalkho, Devi Dayal Munda, Sonu Khalkho, Sujata Kachhap, Vinod Kumar Baraik, Praveen Kacchap, Suman Kant Tigga, Kiran Kumari, Surendra Linda, Roshni Khalkho and Sujit Vijay Anand Kujur- will contest for the mayoral post,” a statement from the Ranchi district election officer said.The allocation of election symbols to the candidates will take place on Saturday, from 11 am to 3 pm. Polling for the RMC elections will be held on February 23. The counting of votes is scheduled for February 27.
