Ranchi: Police averted a possible crime by arresting a 19-year-old youth for allegedly possessing a gun from the Daily Market area late Tuesday, police said.The arrested accused was identified as Imran Manwari (19), police added.Ranchi SP Paras Rana said, “Acting on a tip off about an armed youth plotting to execute a major crime, Imran was sighted near a bank on Kailash Babu Street around 11:20pm on Tuesday. He attempted to flee but police chased him down, and found a loaded country-made pistol from his possession during the search. He was arrested for being unable to produce documents for possessing the gun.”A case was registered against him at the Daily Market police station under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
An investigation has been launched to unearth more details in the matter,” the SP added.A series of coordinated loot cases occurred at several petrol pumps on the outskirts of Ranchi in the past week. A gang of 10 bike-borne gunmen threatened petrol pump staff and looted over Rs 2 lakh in total from four petrol pumps located across the city within a span of three days. On Sunday, 10 miscreants were arrested for alleged involvement in loot cases, police added.
