Ranjith Sreenivas murder: Special public prosecutor appointed

The Kerala government has appointed senior advocate P. Vijaya Bhanu as the special public prosecutor in the High Court for the criminal appeal in the murder case of BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivas in Alappuzha in December 2021.

The Mavelikara Additional District Sessions Court-I had awarded the death penalty to 15 convicted persons – all of whom belonged to the now proscribed Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political arm, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Sreenivas, a lawyer and the State secretary of the BJP’s front for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), had been hacked to death at his house at Vellakinar in Alappuzha, in front of his mother, wife, and daughter.
