In a disturbing case that has stunned Bhopal, two sisters have been arrested on charges of rape, forced religious conversion and operating a sex racket under the pretext of offering jobs to vulnerable women.
The accused sisters, identified as Amreen and Afreen, were detained along with their associate Chandan Yadav after two women, aged 21 and 32, lodged separate complaints at Bagh Sewania police station on Sunday night.
Three other suspects, identified as Bilal, Chanu and Yasir, are currently absconding. Investigators disclosed that the sisters, who formerly resided in a slum in Abbas Nagar, had recently moved to a luxurious villa in Sagar Royal Villas in the city. It is suspected that this relocation was funded by illegal earnings from exploiting young women, NDTV reported.
Officials stated that the sisters allegedly targeted girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them domestic jobs with a monthly salary of Rs 10,000, along with free accommodation, food, and a “high-profile lifestyle."
However, what seemed like an employment opportunity soon turned into a nightmare. Both complainants reported that they were introduced to parties, pubs, and lounges, where they were compelled to interact with affluent men. The FIR mentions that the victims were forced to consume alcohol and MD drugs, and were sometimes drugged and sexually assaulted.
One victim, a beautician from Mungeli district in Chhattisgarh, claimed that she was taken to Ahmedabad in December 2025 under the guise of work. She alleged that Yasir, a relative of Amreen, raped her there. She further accused Bilal and Chanu of assaulting her on separate occasions.
The second complainant, a Bhopal resident employed as a maid at Amreen’s house, alleged that Chandan Yadav raped her at his sister’s residence in Narayan Nagar after Amreen left her there. She claimed she was threatened with death and defamation if she spoke out.
A significant allegation in the case involves claims of forced religious conversion. The FIR reveals that Chandan Yadav pressured one victim to convert to Islam, promising her marriage to a good family. She converted under pressure and was later forced to wear a burqa and offer prayers. Police were investigating these claims under relevant sections concerning forced conversion and rape.
During the arrests on Monday, police seized the mobile phones of Amreen, Afreen, and Chandan. Officials found several suspicious WhatsApp groups on Amreen’s phone, containing photographs of various young women. Investigators suspect a broader network operating across state lines, as victims were taken to Gujarat and Mumbai and introduced to strangers under different pretexts.
The victims reported that whenever they tried to leave the job, they were threatened and blackmailed with compromising photos.
Meanwhile, A case has been registered at Bagh Sewania police station. Police were examining the accused’s financial transactions, travel records, and digital communications to determine if this was an isolated incident or part of a larger interstate network.
