Bhubaneswar: For the fourth academic year in a row, Cuttack’s Ravenshaw University has posted the highest cut-off percentage in all four streams of arts, physical science, biological science and commerce for admissions to undergraduate (UG) courses in the 2026-27 academic session. The higher education department on Monday released the first selection merit list for admission to undergraduate courses of 1,053 higher education institutions for the new academic session, with Ravenshaw University emerging as the most sought-after institution across multiple streams. In arts, the highest cut-off stood at 94.5% for political science. In the science stream, physics registered the highest cut-off of 96.5%, while zoology recorded 94.83%.

The highest commerce cut-off was 89.17%.Among other streams, Brajakishore Sanskrit Degree College at Garhbishnupur in Jagatsinghpur district recorded the highest Shastri cut-off at 67.57%, while BJB Autonomous College at Bhubaneswar posted the highest self-financing stream cut-off at 92% for computer science. Madhusudan Law University, Cuttack, recorded the highest law stream cut-off at 89.4% for its five-year integrated BA LLB programme.

Official statistics recorded 2,37,200 applications against a total sanctioned seat strength of 2,87,327. In the first phase of allotment, 1,78,782 candidates have been selected. Of them, 1,09,591 are female students, 69,182 are male and nine are transgender candidates, highlighting the continued dominance of female enrolment in higher education institutions across the state. The department on the day notified that selected students opting for the ‘freeze’ option in the e-admission process have to report at their allotted higher education institutions between June 23 and June 25 to complete admission formalities. Candidates choosing the ‘slide/float’ option must pay the admission fee and await the second-round selection. The department has also introduced a new ‘alter’ option, allowing students to modify their preferences through OTP-based verification if they are allotted their first-choice institution but wish to explore other options.Officials said the first-round cut-offs indicate intense competition for premier institutions and popular subjects, particularly in the science and humanities streams.
