While OPS has repeatedly called for reconciliation, the EPS-led leadership has so far maintained a firm stance against the return of expelled leaders.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) said that a united AIADMK is the need of the hour, signalling his willingness to return to the party led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS). OPS said he was ready to join the AIADMK in the interest of party unity and the welfare of Tamil Nadu but added that the decision ultimately rests with the party leadership.
“I am prepared to join the AIADMK under EPS. The question is whether they will accept me," he said. The remarks come amid continued political fragmentation within the AIADMK following his expulsion and the consolidation of power by EPS, who currently serves as the party’s general secretary. While OPS has repeatedly called for reconciliation, the EPS-led leadership has so far maintained a firm stance against the return of expelled leaders.
The statement has renewed speculation about possible realignments within the opposition camp ahead of the Assembly elections expected in April-May 2026.
OPS and EPS had engaged in a bitter power struggle following the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, which eventually led to a split in the party. OPS was expelled from the AIADMK in 2022 after he launched a campaign against EPS’s leadership.
Earlier, AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said OPS could join the AIADMK-BJP alliance in the future, expressing optimism about the NDA expanding further ahead of the Assembly election.
“Ahead of polls, we anticipate more parties to come on board, which will further solidify the alliance. I am also optimistic about the possibility of O Panneerselvam becoming part of our alliance," he said.
