At the India Today South Conclave 2025, ex-Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said he has always believed in the BJP fighting alone and making its mark slowly and steadily, with the eventual goal of coming to power.

Speaking on the party’s current strategy, Annamalai admitted that 2026 would be a “classic case” where the BJP is not in a position to form a government on its own. He pointed out that with new players like Vijay entering the scene, the political contest in the state would intensify, but stressed that the DMK should be voted out of power.

On the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK, Annamalai said it was a very pragmatic call by the party leadership and added that he hoped it would reap results in 2026. “We are part of the alliance,” he said, making it clear that the tie-up was crucial for the upcoming Assembly elections.
