For the unversed, Meghan was an actress on Suits when she met and began dating Prince Harry in 2016. The couple wed in 2018, and Meghan embraced a working royal role alongside her husband before they stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California.Grede then presented the question, "If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?"To which, Meghan replied, "Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth."

From royalty to reality to rebranding: The transition

The question of whether Prince William will remove the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children has been a subject of speculation and debate within the British royal family for quite some time now.

For context, when ‘Megxit’ happened (In January 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry announced their decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family), as part of this agreement, Harry and Meghan agreed not to use their HRH titles in conjunction with their work going forward.

However, they retained the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, automatically received the titles of prince and princess upon the accession of their grandfather, King Charles III, to the throne.

These titles were conferred based on the Letters Patent issued by King George V in 1917, which granted the title of prince or princess to male-line grandchildren of the monarch.Meanwhile, post-Megxit, Meghan has embarked on various projects to establish her identity beyond the monarchy. In 2024, she launched As Ever, a lifestyle brand initially named American Riviera Orchard, focusing on food preserves and home goods. The brand's rebranding reflects her desire to connect with a broader audience and distance herself from royal associations.Additionally, Meghan has ventured into media with her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, where she shares personal stories and experiences, further asserting her narrative control and re-making her public.

That’s not all. Alongside hosting her own podcast, Confession of a Female Founder, Meghan has become a regular on other podcast shows as well, where she keeps churning out ‘her side of the story’ bit by bit.

Now, although Harry and Meghan agreed to relinquish their ‘His/Her Royal Highness’ (HRH) titles and cease representing the Queen in official duties, they retained their titles in private life, leading to public scrutiny when Meghan used her HRH title on a note to a friend in 2025 – a move for which Meghan was accused of using the royal title for her personal gain.

Family feud leads to the retracting of royal titles?

Now, this is common knowledge but for the unversed, Prince William and Prince Harry have a longstanding feud going on since forever, something that reportedly started with Meghan entering Harry’s life.In 2017, reports emerged that Harry and William had a fallout over the treatment of Meghan Markle. Harry allegedly expressed to William that he felt his brother wasn't doing enough to welcome Meghan into the family.

In 2018, after tying the knot, Harry and Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace and shifted to Frogmore Cottage, and the next year, the couple split from the Royal Foundation they had set up with William and Kate – all of which made the rift between the two brothers more evident.

After the ‘Megxit’, what followed was the Oprah Winfrey interview, the Netflix documentary (Harry & Meghan), and Prince Harry’s autobiography, Spare – that solidified the speculations of ongoing beef between the brothers. Now, as of 2025, the situation has not been any better. On top of that, as Harry and Meghan are on their own paths to keep using their royal titles all the while taking not-so-subtle digs at the royal family – the latest buzz is that Prince William is reportedly planning to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children— Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet— of their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles once he ascends the throne, a move that came after reports, initially highlighted by The Guardian and later The Daily Mail, suggested Harry wants to keep the HRH titles for his children so they can choose later in life whether they want to take on royal roles. However, while there have been discussions about the titles of Harry and Meghan, there is no official confirmation regarding the removal of HRH titles from their children.
