Rockstar Games fans may have a good news. Soon after a surprise physical disc version of the original Red Dead Redemption was spotted for the PlayStation 5, when eagle-eyed gamers noticed a preorder listing on the Spanish retail site Wakkap, suggesting a disc version is finally riding into town.
The game received a digital “current-gen” update in December 2025, leaving collectors and physical media fans wanting. The listing specifically shows a physical edition for the PS5, though there is currently no mention of a similar disc for Xbox Series X, as per a report by GameRant. Notably, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is listed as a “code-in-box,” which means that the PS5 might be the only platform getting a physical disc.Rockstar has not officially confirmed the release but it is common for retailers to accidentally leak product pages before a studio’s marketing team is ready, the report said. Given that the digital version of the game recently climbed to the top of the PlayStation and Xbox charts, a physical release would be a smart financial move for the company.
Red Dead Redemption price
Perhaps the most interesting detail in the leak is the price. According to the listing, the disc version is set to release on May 7 for €32.90 (roughly $40).
If true, it would actually be $10 cheaper than the digital version currently on the PlayStation Store. Even though digital sales dominated the market in 2025, a dedicated community of gamers still prefers physical media. A disc offers multiple benefits, including ensuring they own the game forever without worrying about digital store closures, installing the game from a disc can save time and internal SSD space, and having a physical case to display. The timing of this leak suggests a busy year for the studio. Along with this potential May release for the original Red Dead, rumours are rife that an enhanced edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 could arrive later this year.
