Red sanders logs worth ₹2 crore seized Kavali

The Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) on Wednesday seized red sanders logs weighing 2.5 tonnes worth ₹2 crore. The logs were seized during an offensive on the Chennai-Vijayawada National Highway at Kavali, when the police intercepted a truck carrying the item.

Under the direction of Taskforce head L. Subbarayudu, the team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Srinivas searched for the vehicle upon getting the information. They saw two cars and a lorry rushing towards them at high speed on the highway. However, after noticing the officials the two cars suddenly took a U-turn. The police immediately pounced on the truck and arrested one person hailing from Haryana. The other two vehicles escaped in the cover of darkness.

The team brought the arrested person, the logs and the vehicles to the Taskforce headquarters in Tirupati and registered a case. Deputy Superintendents V. Srinivasa Reddy, Md. Sharif, Assistant Conservator of Forest J. Srinivas launched an investigation.
