The Centre has informed the Kerala High Court that all works related to the redevelopment of the Angamaly-Mannuthy NH 544 corridor will be completed before the onset of the monsoon season.
Simultaneously, repair works are being done in accident-prone ‘black spots’ on the stretch, it submitted before the High Court. The court was hearing petitions seeking steps to ensure safe and streamlined flow of vehicles in the NH corridor.
On April 28 last year, the Thrissur District Collector had suspended toll collection at the Paliyekkara toll plaza, citing severe traffic congestion in and around the sites where underpasses were being built on the national highway. The Collector had also directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take prompt measures to ensure steady flow of vehicles, with police help. The suspension of toll was subsequently withdrawn after the NHAI promised that corrective measures would be taken.
The matter has been posted for hearing on 28 May.
