Renowned artist and activist K.T. Shivaprasad passes away at 78

Renowned artist and activist K.T. Shivaprasad passed away at a hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday (June 30, 2026). He was 78.

Mr. Shivaprasad, a resident of Hassan, recently underwent surgery for a kidney infection and had recovered. However, when he developed breathing problems on Saturday (June 27, 2026), he was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru. He breathed his last around 10 a.m. on June 30, according to family sources. He is survived by his wife, Suvarna C, and siblings.

The mortal remains will be taken to Hassan. The public will have an opportunity to pay tributes to the artist at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat premises in Hassan between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday (July 1). The final rites will be held in Hassan later in the day, Ms. Suvarna told The Hindu.

Mr. Shivaprasad was widely known for his artistic practice, his work as an architect and photographer, and his steadfast support for the farmers' movement and the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Karnataka. Kavishyla, the memorial to Kannada poet and Jnanapeetha awardee Kuvempu that he designed, stands as one of his most significant works.
