Times News NetworkBhopal: An unidentified man aged around 60 years, who was rescued by Hanumanganj police personnel after being trapped in a nullah during heavy rain, died during treatment at Hamidia Hospital on Friday, five days after the incident.Police said the man had been admitted in critical condition after rescue, but doctors suspect he succumbed to severe infection caused by contaminated drain water entering his lungs and body. The incident occurred on the night of June 28 near Puttha Mill, Agarwal Trisection under Hanumanganj police station limits, when heavy rainfall caused the drain to overflow.According to police, constables Mohit Shivhare and Rajendra Raghuvanshi, who were on motorcycle patrol duty, heard cries for help while patrolling the Chhola Road area at around midnight.

On reaching the spot, they found the elderly man trapped in deep slush inside the drain.Police said the victim had apparently suffered a head injury after falling into the drain.Constable Mohit Shivhare climbed into the drain despite the thick mud, which had submerged nearly half of his body, and held the victim to prevent him from being swept away. After a strenuous rescue operation, the team pulled the man out safely. The victim was administered CPR after being brought out, following which he regained breathing and was rushed to hospital.Despite treatment for five days, he died on Friday.
