The first rescued cub did not respond to treatment and died on Wednesday.
UDHAGAMANDALAM: A rescued tiger cub in the Nilgiris died after developing health complications, while another cub has been shifted to Vandalur zoo in Chennai for treatment.On April 25, forest department officials received information about two tiger cubs wandering on a private farmland near Alagar Malai in the Aramby beat of the Ooty North Forest Range.
A special team first rescued a five-month-old female cub found in the area. After a continuous search, the second cub was located and rescued the next day.Experts provided intensive medical treatment to both cubs. Despite these efforts, the first rescued cub did not respond to treatment and died on Wednesday. After a postmortem, the cub’s remains were cremated according to National Tiger Conservation Authority protocols.To save the other cub, the forest department transported it to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai. The cub will receive specialized long-term care and rehabilitation under the supervision of senior veterinarians.Meanwhile, an adult tiger and a wild boar were found dead in an abandoned well in the Selvapuram area of the O Valley forest range in Gudalur. Forest department officials said the eight-year-old tiger and the wild boar might have fallen into the well accidentally, causing their deaths. A postmortem was conducted on the carcass of the tiger. Biological samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis to confirm the exact cause of the tiger’s death.
