Resident Evil 1 Remake rumored to be under production

The Resident Evil community is once again excited following new leaks suggesting that Capcom is currently working on a full-blown remake of the classic Resident Evil 1. Essentially, the original game from 1996 defined the survival horror genre and previously received a critically acclaimed remake in 2002.

The 2002 version was wonderful, but it has now been over two decades, and a modern remake would likely align with Capcom's recent strategy. The news regarding the remake being in production was revealed by Dusk Golem, who is a prominent figure in the Resident Evil community. The section below takes a detailed look at everything known regarding Resident Evil 1 remake.

Resident Evil 1 Remake reportedly in production

The talk about the Resident Evil 1 Remake opened up when Dusk Golem was speculating on why the iconic Spencer Mansion was cut from the recent Resident Evil Requiem.

He essentially claimed that a new take on the infamous estate is currently in the works, and it was removed from RE9 because it could get repetitive. This is because there is going to be a Mansion-inspired section in the upcoming Code Veronica Remake, and also the Resident Evil 1 Remake. He stated the following: "I'm aware that more recently full production on an RE:1 Remake has gone underway, so imagine if you will if RE9 had this Mansion section.

Then you do a RE1 Mansion inspired section again in CVR next year. And then a bit after that you're playing RE:1 Remake & in the RE1 Mansion again. It'd start to feel very samey & not very special at all. Going back to it so many times in short succession.”However, fans should control their expectations regarding the Resident Evil 1 Remake. Dusk Golem cautioned that the game is just recently entering development, and it is likely anywhere from 4 to 7 years from release.

He further added that it is in early development, and RE games get scrapped all the time. Nevertheless, based on the timeline, if the project is not canceled or internally delayed, you could expect the remake to launch between 2030 and 2033. A 2031 release would be particularly fitting, as it would coincide with the franchise's 35th anniversary.

Upcoming Resident Evil Roadmap

Here is the rumored Resident Evil Roadmap that Capcom is currently working on:

  • Resident Evil - Code: Veronica remake slated for 2027
  • Resident Evil Zero remake expected in 2028

With these titles already under production, it will be interesting to see whether the Resident Evil 1 Remake actually turns out to be true.
