Results of byelections declared in 12 panchayats

Panaji/Calangute: Results of byelections held in 12 panchayats were declared on Monday. Earlier, Rakhi Salgaonkar was elected unopposed from ward 2 of Salvador-do-Mundo panchayat, while Nilu Velip was elected unopposed from ward 8 of Balli-Adnem panchayat in Quepem, a ward reserved for ST.Lourenco Silveria won ward 1 of Candolim panchayat in a four-cornered contest, securing 51.49% of the votes. In ward 1 of Pilerne-Marra panchayat, reserved for women, Saijal Bandodkar defeated Juliet D’Souza in a straight contest polling 268 votes against 128. Savlo Mandrekar won ward 6 of Sirsaim panchayat, defeating Umakant Kudnekar with 149 votes.In Pernem taluka, Mahesh Naik won ward 1 of Chandel-Hassarpur panchayat, while Sharvi Hadfadkar secured ward 4 of Mandrem panchayat with 294 votes.In Bicholim taluka, Lau Kotkar won ward 3 of Latabarcem panchayat, defeating Narayan Chanankar by 43 votes, while Gautami Gauns won ward 7 of Piligao panchayat with 149 votes.In Ponda taluka, Devendra Gaude won ward 1 of Borim panchayat, while Shanu Bhomkar was elected from ward 3 of Bhoma-Adcolna panchayat. Sulaksha Gaude Akarkar won ward 3 of Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem panchayat, reserved for ST women.Antonio Vaz won ward 6 of Aquem-Baixo panchayat, while Teja Naik secured ward 8 of Poliem-Polem panchayat.
