Patna: Armed miscreants looted jewellery and cash worth around Rs12 lakh from the residence of retired civil surgeon Dr Vijayendra Satyarthi in Gidhaur block of Jamui district on Monday.Five masked and armed criminals entered Dr Vijayendra’s house—located just 10 metres from Gidhaur police station—and held the doctor, his wife Pushpam Satyarthi, and their son hostage at gunpoint.According to Dr Vijayendra, the robbers administered sedatives through injections, rendering the family unconscious. They then searched the house and escaped with valuables.The family remained unconscious for some time before regaining partial consciousness.
Dr Vijayendra’s son later told police that the criminals claimed they had received an information about Rs80 lakh being kept in the house. After the robbers fled, the unconscious family members were rushed to Jamui Sadar Hospital for treatment.A police team, led by Jamui SP Vishwajeet Dayal, visited the spot and examined CCTV footage to gather clues. A special team has been formed to investigate the case and arrest the accused.
Additional SHO of Gidhaur police station Jayprakash Kumar Singh said when police reached the house, all family members were unconscious.“We admitted them to the district hospital. According to Dr Vijayendra, the robbers claimed they had received a contract to kill the family, but spared them as they were ‘good people’ and instead demanded Rs 80 lakh in cash. The criminals also brought injections, which were administered to the family members,” he said on Tuesday. “The investigation is underway. Police are examining CCTV footage of the incident, which took place between 5.30am and 6am on Monday,” Singh added.
