Kolhapur: A 36-year-old revenue assistant posted at the Shahuwadi tehsil office was killed and his four-year-old daughter critically injured after their motorcycle collided with a state transport bus near Babavade village, on the Kolhapur-Ratnagiri highway, in Kolhapur district on Tuesday morning.
His wife and one-and-a-half-year-old son also sustained injuries in the crash.The deceased has been identified as Maruti Makar, who was travelling with his family when the accident occurred at a turn connecting to the highway around 11.30am. The police said Makar was taking his wife and two children to a market when the collision took place.“We have taken the driver of the Ratnagiri-bound Shivai ST bus into custody.
There is a sharp turn and maybe the revenue employee was trying to cross the road. The exact details are, however, yet to be ascertained. His daughter is critical and undergoing treatment for a head injury at a private hospital in Kolhapur,” said Shahuwadi deputy superintendent of police Appaso Pawar.According to the police, Makar had been serving at the Shahuwadi tehsil office for the past four years and was due for a transfer in the coming days. He was originally from Malshiras tehsil in Solapur district.Family members rushed to Kolhapur after learning about the accident.Local residents said the accident site is a known black spot where crashes occur frequently, and demanded measures to improve road safety at the junction.
