Revenue department issues eviction notice to former MLA S Rajendran

Munnar: Revenue department has issued an eviction notice to former Devikulam MLA S Rajendran, directing him to vacate his residence in Munnar within seven days. The notice, issued in the name of Devikulam sub-collector, states that the house has been confirmed to be situated on govt puramboke land.

Rajendran currently resides on a seven-cent plot at Ikka Nagar in Munnar.According to the notice, if Rajendran fails to vacate the premises within the stipulated period, revenue department will seek police assistance for eviction. A request in this regard has been submitted to Idukki district police chief.Reacting to the development, Rajendran alleged that the eviction notice was politically motivated. He said he would challenge the notice through legal means and claimed that the documents connected to the land are fabricated.Rajendran further stated that he has approached court over the issue and has no immediate plans to vacate the house. He pointed out that state govt had earlier decided not to evict occupants residing on plots measuring less than 10 cents. The present action, he argued, contradicts that policy.Claiming political vendetta, Rajendran said that while show cause notices were issued to around 30 residents in the area, he alone had been served with a direct eviction notice.
