‘Ridiculed and Shamed’: 50-year-old farmer ends life days after sex assault clip circulated in UP village; youth arrested for abetment

BAREILLY: Unable to bear the taunts, ridicules and social disgrace after a video of him being sexually assaulted by a 23-year-old man started circulating, a 50-year-old marginal farmer consumed poison and died in hospital after battling for life for five days.The incident took place in a village under Bilsi police station in Budaun district. Circle officer Bilsi Sanjeev Kumar said, "An FIR for abetment of suicide was filed. Accused has been arrested."According to the complaint filed by the victim's family, on July 7, the farmer had gone to a liquor shop where he met the accused, and they drank together. After the victim got drunk and passed out, the accused sexually assaulted him and recorded a video of the act.The next day, the accused showed the video to a few villagers, who started ridiculing the victim and taunted him and called him names for "bringing disgrace" to the village.On July 17, the man went to his agri field and consumed poison. He was found unconscious a few hours later by his family members, who rushed him to hospital in a critical condition. He died on Tuesday night.
