Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the strongman politician from eastern Uttar Pradesh (UP), is no stranger to headlines. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle, political controversies and unapologetic public persona, the former MP and ex-chief of the Wrestling Federation of India has once again grabbed attention — this time not for politics or protest, but for a luxury gift that has become the latest symbol of his larger-than-life image. A thoroughbred racehorse worth around Rs 1.25 crore has been added to his already impressive stable in Gonda, turning his birthday celebrations into a talking point across the region.

The horse, barely two years old, arrived from Punjab in a mini truck, drawing crowds the moment it reached Brij Bhushan’s ancestral village Bishnoharpur in Gonda district. Locals gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the prized animal as Brij Bhushan himself came forward to welcome it, patting and admiring the horse like a seasoned owner. When informed about its market value, the former MP burst into laughter and quipped, “Yaar, hum to paagal ho jaayenge (we’ll go mad)," a remark that quickly went viral on social media.

According to Brij Bhushan, the horse is no ordinary animal. It has already participated in international races and has won a prize money of Rs 17 lakh in a single competition. The horse even has a separate passport, allowing it to travel abroad for global racing events — an uncommon feature that underlines its elite pedigree.

Interestingly, Brij Bhushan did not buy the horse. It was gifted to him ahead of his 69th birthday on January 8 by friends of his son and sitting BJP MP Karan Bhushan Singh. The gift was sent by Tejveer Brar, Gurpreet Singh and Deepak, all associated with horse racing academies in Punjab. The trio reportedly decided to give the “birthday special" present as a mark of respect and goodwill, transporting the horse all the way from Punjab to Gonda.

Brij Bhushan has instructed his staff to ensure the horse’s diet, training and fitness are maintained without compromise. The new arrival has been handed over to experienced caretakers at his stable, which already houses three expensive Marwari horses. Among them are ‘Badal’, valued at around Rs 10 lakh, and ‘Bullet’, priced close to Rs 8 lakh. With the latest gift, the number of high-value horses at his estate has now gone up to four.

The horses are just one part of Brij Bhushan’s flashy lifestyle. Right across from his bungalow lies a sprawling stable built over nearly five bighas of land, enclosed by a white boundary wall. When in Gonda, Brij Bhushan begins his day at the gym inside his residence and often heads straight to the stable afterward, personally feeding his horses and taking short riding rounds.

His residence itself reflects scale and power. Spread across nearly 15 acres, the white bungalow features a public court for visitors, a guest house, family cottages, manicured gardens and even a private helipad. Entry to the property is guarded by multiple gates and heavy security. Brij Bhushan is known to own multiple high-end vehicles, including several Toyota Land Cruisers, a Lexus worth nearly Rs 3 crore, a Toyota Vellfire priced around Rs 2.5 crore, and a fleet of Toyota Fortuners. He is also believed to own three helicopters and a private jet, making air travel a routine affair.

Beyond luxury, Brij Bhushan has invested heavily in cattle rearing. He owns over 150 cows, including nearly 70 of the Gir breed, each estimated to be worth more than Rs 5 lakh. His educational ventures, grouped under the ‘Nandini’ banner, include schools and colleges offering courses from engineering to nursing and management.

Yet, Brij Bhushan’s public life has been far from smooth. He has frequently been at the centre of controversies — ranging from allegations in a sexual harassment case to high-profile disputes with Maharashtra leader Raj Thackeray and opposition to Baba Ramdev. In recent years, he has also openly criticised the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on several issues, signaling friction within political lines.

Politically, he faced a significant setback when his own ticket was cut, though the seat remained within the family as his son Karan Bhushan Singh was fielded and elected as MP. The move sparked debate, with critics calling it dynastic politics, while supporters described it as a strategic adjustment.

However, from building an international wrestling stadium inside his college campus to maintaining an estate that rivals luxury resorts, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues to live life on a scale that few politicians can match.
