Comedian and actor Vir Das recently opened up about a memorable encounter with the late Rishi Kapoor.Speaking on the Moment of Silence podcast hosted by Sakshi Shivdasani and Naina Bhan, Vir narrated a delightful incident from a flight that had both laughter and legacy written all over it.
“I want the bloody cake!”
While recounting a chance meeting with Rishi Kapoor five years after their work together on Namaste London, Vir described sitting quietly at the back of a flight when a commotion erupted in business class. “You can’t eat the cake,” Neetu Kapoor reportedly said. Rishi Kapoor, in full dramatic flair, shot back, “I want the bloody cake. What the f***?” Moments later, to Vir’s surprise, Rishi stood up and walked all the way back to economy class, just to chat with him.
Rishi ate my cake, And it was totally okay
Rishi Kapoor spotted Vir and warmly called out, “Arre, Vir!” He sat beside him and launched into stories about his film journey, even listing actors who started with him. As the conversation unfolded, Rishi looked at Vir’s tray and casually asked, “You’re going to eat your cake?” Before Vir could answer, Rishi helped himself. “But yeah, you can eat your cake if you’re Rishi Kapoor,” Vir quipped.
“Shake my hand and promise me you’ll keep acting”
Years before the flight, Rishi Kapoor had predicted greatness for Vir during their first interaction. “Shake my hand and promise me you’ll keep acting,” Rishi had told him. That handshake, Vir said, made him feel like Tina Munim in 'Karz'. “All your masculine energy just drains,” he joked, highlighting the star’s powerful charm.Rishi Kapoor, who passed away in 2020 after a long battle with leukemia, continues to be remembered not just for his acting brilliance.
