Road blocked over college student’s death in Motihari

Motihari: A student of a local college died after being hit by a school bus near Hospital Chowk under the Town police station area in Motihari on Saturday, triggering protests by his family members and fellow students who blocked the road with the body, alleging medical negligence.According to police, the deceased was identified as Abhishek Kumar, a student of LND College, who had come to Motihari to appear for an examination. Around 7am, while crossing the road near the college campus, he was hit by a school bus and sustained critical injuries. The Hospital Chowk had been barricaded due to Vice President C P Radhakrishnan’s visit to Charkha Park.Abhishek’s friends and family members alleged that the victim died due to a delay in shifting him to the hospital despite his serious condition.

They alleged that an ambulance was not provided on time, even though ambulances were reportedly available on the hospital premises.Following the incident, enraged relatives and college students placed the body at the main gate of LND College and staged a protest. The agitation led to traffic coming to a standstill in the area for nearly three hours.Superintendent of police (SP) Swarn Prabhat, along with other senior officers, reached the spot and pacified the agitating students by assuring strict action against the bus driver and adequate compensation for the victim’s family.“An investigation has been initiated and evidence is being collected to examine the role of the bus driver and the hospital administration. Security has been tightened near the college to ensure law and order,” he added.
