A medical student allegedly took her own life in her hostel room in a private medical college in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday night when a final-year BDS student from Jammu and Kashmir, Sweta Singh, was found hanging in her room. Her roommate allegedly discovered her hanging, after which she alerted the hostel authorities, and the police were called.
The cops found a suicide note at the spot where the student allegedly accused the faculty of mentally harassing students and not conducting examinations on time, the officials said.
As the incident came to light, the students carried out a protest march at the college and blocked a road outside, as they demanded action against the teachers who were mentioned in Sweta’s note.
The college director held talks with the students and assured them of taking strict action against those faculty members.
“The matter is being investigated by the police, and they will take appropriate action based on their findings. The college management is also addressing the situation and will terminate the staff members involved," the director told reporters, news agency PTI reported.
SHO Sukher Police Station Ravindra Charan said that the student’s body was shifted to a mortuary, and a postmortem will be conducted after the arrival of her family members.
