Tuticorin: Two unidentified individuals attempted to rob a cooperative bank in Vellaiyammalpuram village near Vilathikulam, Tuticorin, on Sunday night. However, they could not steal any item or cash.Police sources said that two masked and fully covered men entered the bank premises by breaking the lock of a wooden door, followed by an iron grill gate, which serves as the main entrance. Police noted that the suspects broke the lock of the door precisely, without any scratch on those doors.The perpetrators then entered the bank and cut the wires of the CCTV camera one by one. They even severed the connections of the burglary alarm systems before attempting to break through the safe, added the police.However, they failed to break the safe, which contained gold jewellery worth around Rs4.5 crore.Police said the two men spent around three hours inside the bank; they entered the bank premises at 10.30pm and left at around 1.30am on Monday.Based on a complaint, Eppodumvendran police registered a case and are conducting an intensive search for the suspects with the assistance of fingerprint experts.
