Rockstar is offering a free GTA 5 upgrade for players who own older consoles: Here’s how it works

Rockstar Games has announced a limited-time upgrade offer for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 players on older consoles. This promotion will offer eligible GTA 5 owners access to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA V and GTA Online at no additional cost.

The offer arrives ahead of the launch of a new GTA Online update called The Kortz Center Heist, which is scheduled to arrive in July.According to Rockstar, players who own any PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 or the digital Xbox One version of the game will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S versions without paying an upgrade fee.

According to Rockstar’s announcement, eligible users can upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S editions starting today (June 18).

Players upgrading to the newer versions will also be able to transfer their Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters.The upgraded editions include technical improvements and access to features such as Hao’s Special Works vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards and other enhancements available on current-generation consoles.PC players can also upgrade from the Legacy version of GTA 5 to the Enhanced edition at no additional cost.

The PC version includes features such as ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination.

What’s new in the GTA Online update coming in July

The upgrade offer comes as Rockstar prepares to launch The Kortz Center Heist for GTA Online. The update revolves around the Kortz Center, a well-known art gallery located in Pacific Bluffs within Los Santos.Players will be able to purchase an Art Studio addition for their Mansion property, scout the location and choose different approaches for carrying out the multi-stage heist.Rockstar said the upcoming weeks will include special events featuring bonus GTA$ rewards, discounts and opportunities to obtain rare collectables through the Fine Art Collector program.The company also announced that GTA+ members will receive a GTA$2,000,000 discount on Mansion properties. In addition, all players will be able to receive a 40% bonus GTA$ on Shark Card purchases for a limited time.The Kortz Center Heist update is scheduled to launch in July for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
