Roof collapse at wedding kills two in Aurangabad

A joyous wedding celebration in Aurangabad, Bihar turned into a nightmare as the roof of a house caved in during the jaimala ceremony. Tragically, two lives were lost and approximately ten guests sustained injuries when the structure buckled under the weight of the attendees.

Patna: Two people died and around 10 others sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed on them during a wedding ceremony in Aurangabad district on Saturday night. The incident occurred at the residence of Ramvyas Singh in Manjhiyawa village under the Obera police station area.According to eyewitnesses, the roof gave way during the jaimala ceremony, trapping several guests under the debris. The injured were rushed to hospitals in Daudnagar and Aurangabad for treatment, with some referred to higher medical facilities. Ramvyas Singh’s daughter was getting married and the wedding procession had just arrived. As the jaimala ceremony was underway, a large number of women and children climbed onto the roof of a nearby house to watch the event.

Due to the excessive load, the roof suddenly collapsed, and debris fell on people sitting below.Police said the deceased were identified as Satyanarayan Singh (46) and Akhileshwar Yadav (48), both residents of the same village. Akhileshwar worked in Kalyan Chak Colliery under the Chirkunda police station area in Dhanbad, while Satyanarayan was a farmer. Villagers said the two were cousin brothers of the bride and had come to attend the wedding.

After the incident, villagers launched rescue operations and pulled out those trapped under the debris. “Around 10 people were injured, including villagers and some from the groom’s side. They are out of danger and undergoing treatment. It is being ascertained whether the collapse was caused by overcrowding or a construction defect. Further investigation is underway,” said Nitish Kumar, SHO of Obera police station.
