RoRo breaks down due to rope entanglement

Panaji: One of the two RoRo ferries operating on the Chorao-Ribandar route, named Dwarka, broke down at Chorao at 3.30pm on Monday. The incident occurred due to rope entanglement in its propeller.

As a result, the vessel’s operations were suspended for the day. Passengers aboard the ferry were safely towed away, and the vessel was taken to the river navigation department’s (RND) workshop for repairs. “Such incidents are common during the monsoon season, as debris, including discarded fishing nets, is often carried downstream in the river, causing occasional disruptions to ferry operations,” said RND director, Vikram Rajebhosale. He further said that Dwarka ferry resumed services on the route from 7.30pm onwards.
