A long-simmering family dispute within the Nagod royal family in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district turned violent on Thursday when a woman was allegedly shot by her husband's first wife inside the historic Parsamaniya Fort.

The incident unfolded on Thursday when Sunita Singh, the first wife of Rupendra Singh alias Baba Raja, allegedly opened fire on Yogita Singh, his second wife, during a dispute inside the fort. Yogita suffered a gunshot injury in the firing. Baba Raja is the nephew of BJP MLA and former minister Nagendra Singh.

According to police, the two women had been embroiled in a prolonged family dispute. Yogita Singh had reportedly arrived at the fort two days earlier along with her relatives in an attempt to resolve the ongoing conflict.

The situation escalated on Thursday afternoon during discussions between the two sides. Police said Sunita Singh allegedly opened fire with her licensed .22-bore rifle. Multiple rounds were reportedly fired during the confrontation.

One of the bullets struck Yogita Singh in the abdomen, leaving her critically injured. She was initially rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to a higher medical centre for specialised treatment.

Doctors successfully removed the bullet during surgery. She remains under treatment and is being monitored in the intensive care unit.

Following the incident, additional police personnel were deployed in the Parsamaniya Garhi area. Police swiftly detained Sunita Singh and initiated legal proceedings.

Additional Superintendent of Police Prem Lal Kurve said preliminary investigations suggest the dispute between the two women had been ongoing for a considerable period and may have involved property or other family-related issues.

"The accused woman has been taken into custody. The licensed .22-bore firearm allegedly used in the incident is being seized as part of the investigation. Further inquiry and legal action are underway," Kurve said.

Police have not disclosed further details, citing the ongoing investigation. The high-profile case, involving members of a prominent royal family with political connections, has attracted significant attention across the region.
