RPF returns lost valuables worth ₹29.15 lakh to passengers

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Secunderabad recovered and returned lost passenger belongings worth ₹29.15 lakh in two separate incidents under “Operation Amanat”, officials said on Sunday.

In the first incident, S. Nagarjuna Kumar of Hyderabad, who was travelling with his family from Ongole to Secunderabad on Train No. 12709 Simhapuri Express, accidentally left a ladies’ handbag inside the coach after getting down at Secunderabad railway station.

After receiving information, personnel from the RPF Secunderabad and the CPT team traced the bag. It contained 172 grams of gold ornaments, ₹45,000 in cash, two mobile phones and a wristwatch, with the total value estimated at ₹27.05 lakh. The belongings were returned to the passenger after verification.

In the other incident, the RPF acted on a Rail Madad complaint filed by K. Suresh of Visakhapatnam, who had travelled on Train No. 22203 Duronto Express and accidentally left his waist bag containing ₹2.10 lakh in cash inside the coach. RPF personnel traced the bag and restored it to the passenger after due verification.

According to the RPF, valuables worth approximately ₹29.15 lakh were returned to their rightful owners in the two cases.

Officials said that during 2026, the RPF at Secunderabad had restored lost passenger belongings on 101 occasions, returning valuables worth ₹68.69 lakh.
