Twenty-year-old Uttar Pradesh spinner Prashant Veer secured a record-breaking IPL contract worth Rs 14.20 crore with Chennai Super Kings on December 16, 2025, at the mini-auction in Abu Dhabi, making him the joint-most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history alongside Kartik Sharma.The young spinner was watching the auction live on his mobile device with his UP teammates when the bidding unfolded. UP captain Rinku Singh celebrated as the bid crossed Rs 10 crore, while teammates playfully teased Veer about managing such a large sum. The duo's signing amount surpassed the previous record of Rs 10 crore paid by Lucknow Super Giants for Avesh Khan in IPL 2023.

"Maza aa raha hai (I am enjoying)," Veer said about his record-breaking contract.
The left-arm spinner has represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, claiming 12 wickets in 9 T20s with an economy rate of 6.45. He has also taken two wickets in his two first-class appearances."It was truly surprising for me. I hadn't expected this much. I had spoken to the Chennai officials earlier, and they had mentioned something, but I didn't anticipate this level of opportunity. I feel very blessed and am excited to meet Dhoni bhai," Veer told India Today after the auction.
"I'll try to learn as much as I can from him. Right now, it's just the beginning. I have to focus on playing cricket," he said about the prospect of playing alongside Dhoni.Dhoni, considered one of cricket's greatest captains, will be a valuable mentor for the young spinner."There's no specific plan yet. Maybe just a couple of things about cricket, his mindset. If I can learn even a little from him, it'll be very helpful," Veer added about learning from Dhoni.The signing of both Veer and Kartik Sharma at Rs 14.20 crore each marks a significant moment in IPL auction history, setting a new benchmark for uncapped players.
