NEW DELHI: An employee of a finance firm was allegedly robbed of Rs 17 lakh after two bike-borne assailants threatened him at gunpoint in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar market on Friday.
A video of the incident surfaced on social media on Saturday. The 28-second CCTV footage shows the two men getting off a motorcycle in a residential lane adjoining the market, pointing a pistol at the employee and snatching the bag containing the cash before fleeing. In the video, timed around 4.09 pm, shows auto-rickshaws and parked two-wheelers lining the street. A scooter and a motorcycle pass through the lane normally before a man carrying a black backpack is seen walking down the right side of the street.
Suddenly, two men riding a motorcycle approach from the opposite direction and block his path.The pillion rider quickly dismounts from the moving motorcycle, points what appears to be a firearm directly at the employee, and aggressively corners him against the wall. He forcefully snatches the backpack containing the cash.Within seconds, the assailant hops back onto the motorcycle where his accomplice is waiting with the engine running.
The duo accelerates and flees the scene immediately, leaving bystanders startled as the victim chases after them in vain.Police said that the preliminary investigation suggests the accused had been following the employee for some distance before intercepting him. A case has been registered at the Gandhi Nagar police station and CCTV footage is being analysed to trace and apprehend the accused.
