Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has declared family assets worth nearly Rs 198 crore in the affidavit filed with his nomination papers for the Bankipur Assembly constituency by-election. The disclosure has brought the former election strategist’s financial holdings into public focus as he contests his first election.

According to the affidavit, Kishor has declared assets worth Rs 96.06 crore in his own name, while his wife, Dr Jahnavi Das, has declared assets worth Rs 101.93 crore. Together, the family’s declared assets come to about Rs 197.99 crore.

The affidavit shows that the family’s movable assets are valued at Rs 111.78 crore, while immovable assets are valued at Rs 86.29 crore. Kishor’s own movable assets are listed at Rs 22.19 crore, and his wife’s movable assets at Rs 89.51 crore.

A major component of Kishor’s declared wealth is his investment portfolio. He has declared a 100 per cent controlling stake in Vedhas Ventures Private Limited, valued at about Rs 95.26 crore. The affidavit also lists bank fixed deposits and market-linked investments worth more than Rs 7.36 crore.

The filing includes cash holdings of Rs 65,570 in Kishor’s name and Rs 1,95,200 in his spouse’s name. It also mentions investments in shares, mutual funds, bonds and insurance policies.

Among the immovable assets, Kishor has declared a dismantled rice mill in Rohtas district, Bihar, valued at about Rs 9.75 crore. He has also declared self-acquired residential properties worth about Rs 59.25 crore, including properties in Patliputra Colony, Vasant Vihar, and Ghaziabad. Inherited residential properties are valued at about Rs 14.62 crore.

The affidavit further records 475 grams of gold holdings as part of the family’s declared movable assets. It also states that Kishor has declared liabilities of about Rs 5.77 crore and that he owns no car.

On the legal front, Kishor has declared eight pending criminal cases against him. The cases include allegations related to criminal defamation and unlawful assembly, among other charges. The affidavit notes that the cases are registered at police stations in different parts of Bihar, including Patna and Bettiah. It also states that he has not been convicted in any of these cases.

The Bankipur bypoll is scheduled for July 30, with the last date for filing nominations being July 15. The contest is being closely watched because it marks Prashant Kishor’s first direct electoral battle and is seen as a key test for the Jan Suraaj Party against the BJP in a high-profile Patna constituency.
